Kapuskasing is going green in a very bright way.

The Town of Kapuskasing has recently purchased and installed LED street lights from Leading Canadian firm LED Roadway Lighting Ltd.

The new LED street lights provide an average of 65% savings over the existing fixtures they have replaced. These new LED fixtures have been designed to be maintenance-free for 20 years, so they will provide a substantial savings in maintenance costs.

The existing fixture bulbs needed to be replaced every 3-4 years and contain mercury. The new LED fixtures are completely free of mercury and lead and are totally recyclable at the end of their lengthy life cycle.

LED Roadway Lighting ltd is pleased to be working with the Town of Kapuskasing on their LED street light evaluation. Inside Sales manager Jeff bacon says, “It’s wonderful to be working with the Town of Kapuskasing on this project. LED Roadway applauds their efforts to reduce their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by looking at solutions that not only help preserve the environment, but can also provide substantial long-term savings to the community.

It is believed that if the town were to convert all 1,087 of their current street lights to LED street lights from LED Roadway Lighting Ltd they would save approximately $92,000 per year in maintenance and energy costs at today’s rates.

The chart below highlights the Green Environmental impact that would result should the Town of Kapuskasing change their existing fixtures to the new LED Roadway Lighting fixtures.
