HALIFAX, N.S. (March, 09, 2011) - LED Roadway Lighting Ltd. (LRL), is pleased to announce a contract award, valued at $500,000, from the Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program (CICP). The award was announced in Ottawa today by Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and Minister for Status of Women.

The Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program (CICP), created by the Government of Canada, enables businesses to get their innovative products and services to the marketplace. Through the program, Public Works and Government Services Canada will select a site to trial 200 of LED Roadway Lighting’s LED Street Lights complete with a new and innovative GPS location and control system, which are expected to provide energy savings in excess of 60%. It is anticipated that general adoption of the technology by the Department of Public Works and other federal departments will follow.

“There is significant value in domestic procurement programs like these to the growth of the clean technology sector in Canada”, said Charles Cartmill, CEO of LED Roadway Lighting Ltd. “By being awarded this contract for the testing and validation of our leading edge technologies, we have the opportunity to develop an innovative design resulting in increased energy savings and a significant return on investment for consumers once the new technology is implemented.”

The news follows on from a successful start to the year for LED Roadway Ltd. Earlier last month the Government of Nova Scotia Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal announced LED Roadway Lighting Ltd. would provide the LED Lighting fixtures to replace 2,500 high pressure sodium (HPS) lights throughout the province of Nova Scotia, in a contract awarded to Black and McDonald worth $3,199,500. This followed on from an announcement by Halifax Regional Municipality stating the replacement of 2,100 existing fixtures with LED technology throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality has been successfully completed.
