Halifax, Nova Scotia
LED Roadway Lighting Limited ( LRL ) announced the project in a ceremony attended by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. This $4.2 million project involves the research and development of two new technological innovations in the fields of command and control of LED roadway lighting assets and the development of solar energy conversion technology to reduce energy consumption. The project will complement the company's existing Satellite™ brand of LED based street lighting products.

cartmills-n-peterAbove (L-R): Company President Chuck Cartmill, Ken Cartmill, Curtis Cartmill and Matt Durdle of LED Roadway Lighting Limited, and The Honourable Peter MacKay.
The systems developed will provide the capability for real time monitoring and control of LED street light fixtures, provide dimming functions, detect and monitor failures, eliminate manual fixture inspections and operate with internet-based or power line carrier networks.

In 2007, the company announced its initial $2.9 million research and development program, which culminated in the development of the Satellite™ series of LED-based roadway luminaires. During the course of this project, LRL developed substantial intellectual property in the areas of thermal management, light engine design, and optics.
